it seemed to part for us - would we get through before it closed in? Australia's inland is flat - the skies are huge and often spectacular

@Pixadilly: It's amazing isn't it (the sky not the picture) the flat land there is like being under a huge bowl of a sky... Thanks Pixadilly!

@Viewfinder: You're altogether too kind Viewfinder!! (I like it haha) Thank yoiu! :))
Well cool, like a set of curtains drawing in. I live in the hills, but flat places really have spectacular skies, excellent shot
18 Aug 2007 8:32am
@Richard_Irwin: Yes I like in the hills too Richard - I was travelling out west when I took this, so it seemed pretty amazing ! Thanks for your visit!

@JosefQ: Thanks so much Josef! Glad you could drop by! cheers :)
HDR is High Dynamic Range image. Usually done using few bracketing exposure of same scene and combining them in either Photomatix or Photoshop. But I guess you photo originally turned out with high dynamic range anyways. Good work.

@Persian King: Thanks so much for your comprehensive explanation Amir. I think you're right - the only processing I did was to adjust the brightness/contrast. I'll have to get Photoshop one day it sounds like fun. I have PS Elements1 which I'm still playing around with but I assume it's limited compared with the "real" PS! cheers Bron
Its a fantastic shot Bron! - I'm not surprised that Persian King thought it was an Hdr image as the contrast in light is just amazing - I love that 'about to enter a tunnel' effect and the curve of the road. All the best, Ian

@Ian Bramham: Thanks for your wishes and comment Ian. Perhaps the stronger light here might play a part - but I have no idea why really! Glad you dropped by - cheers Bron!

@Michael Rawluk: Thank you very much Michael! High praise indeed!
Love the shots. Great contrast with the colours. You can almost feel the storm brewing. Reminds me of the Canadian prairies and makes me quite homesick. In other words, you nailed it!

@beach: I feel ambivalent - on the one hand delighted that you like it, on the othe,r very sorry to have made you sick (for home) In any case your comment is fantastic and much appreciated - thanks beach! Hope you can go home soon. :))
I've had this picture up on my monitor all day, just soaking it in. Wanted to say something, but it has all been said already.
18 Aug 2007 10:21pm
@SusanPEI: Hi Susan - thanks - you've said just the right amount!!
How are you getting such amazing pics with a Powershot? Do you do much PP in general? Thinking of upgrading to an SLR?
18 Aug 2007 11:42pm
@Bell Roe: Hi Bell Roe! I've had the G2 for maybe 7 years with me as I travel etc - it was my first camera and I bought the top of the range digital at the time. (my dad was a prof. photographer for 15 years and I learned to use the dark room but hadn't taken phots) The limitations were zoom and virtually unuseable manual focus - frustrating for macros - but it takes good landscapes and good macros if you have time to work out the focus well. I upgraded to the Panasonic DMC fz30 last Christmas - again the best on specs in digital for the money. It's a compromise of course - I don't want to carry a lot of equipment and swap lenses (I've had chronic fatigue and although pretty well now not perfect! :) ) but love the 12x zoom for birds and the instant switch to macro for that insect that I have to catch!! On PP - I only have Photoshop Elements 1 and tend to crop, check the brightness/contrast, unsharp mask at times and I rather like the occasional dodge and burn (sounds almost dangerous) haha. I very very occasionally use the provided filters to play around but only a couple on this blog. (I bought PSE3 but was very unhappy with how clunky it was! I paint in oils, pastels and watercolours so enjoy the cross referencing of images in all media - the principles are the same. BTW thanks for the kind comment! (sorry this is rather long! :) cheers Bron
Wow... Amazing!

@Mehdi: Thanks for your kind comment Mehdi!
Many cloud shots feel flat to me. This is definitely not the case with your photo. The vibrancy of the scene combined with the storm rolling in makes it a very lively photo. Beautifully done.

@Jewlya: I appreciate your thoughfu,l detailed comment Jewlya! Thanks.

@Namor: You'll be very welcome if you ever visit our country Namor!
Bron - I just needed to comment this one aswell. You've captured what I felt when driving out of Melbourne towards the Great Ocean Road. So quiet and flat at the same time very dramatic and so alive with colors. You have a spectacular country. I miss it every day!

@Nina: I can tell you must come back some day Nina - we'll welcome you when that happens!! cheers Bron
