Was the same as Eric. Really impressive, makes you want to find out what it is. My guess is smoke, not water vapor.

What an unceasingly fascinating offering for today, Bron! :) This one keeps playing in the head over and over again. Various permutations and combinations came to mind, but the one which came up most for me was : dish with very hot stuff!! :-)

23 Aug 2007 1:18am
@Double KK Photography: Thanks for all the creative guesses!!
I think it's time to reveal the deep secret! I took the picture in a garden centre - it was of a bowl of water with a mist maker in it, I cropped the shot heavily to focus on the patterns. I found this explanation of how it works on the net.
"The Mist maker utilises electrical oscillation at ultrasonic frequencies. The ceramic changes electrical oscillation into mechanical oscillation, which creates the mist and water spray that rises out of virtually any water container or vessel." Simple when you know!! lol
cool what is this???

@badala: Ah - a creative interpretation badala!
So that's how those things work!!! I have a smoke machine that I used for a photo shoot I did last summer. It was a pain, it smelled bad and it kept blowing the internal fuses. I thought it was going to burn the house down!
28 Aug 2007 6:13pm
@Laurie: Yikes!! This one being in a shop might have burned it down but thank goodness not while I was there!!! lol
Great shot, I was going to guess mist maker in some kind of garden center or something, then I saw you had the explanation. Not really, I hadn't a clue, actually.
